So, first blog post. Its been a long time coming this site, I have had sites in the past around portfolios etc for work relating stuff, but for really pushing my artwork not so much... and seen as I am a web developer by trade or there abouts (UX Developer) its pretty down right shameful!

So where to start, well I actually started with a business Facebook page after much thought and then moved on to a website. Hoping that each would work together pretty well, driving traffic between each other and hopefully producing a couple of sales.

So what am I selling, other than myself ha ha mainly my paintings, so seen as these are the main star of the show I needed good quality digital versions of them, enter stage a whole new area of research. Scanner or camera??

Tripod!

Well there were two questions I was being asked really, am I taking photos to reproduce my artwork for prints or just to post on a website? Well really I'd like to have the option to do both. So I went with the camera, tripod and good lighting route. I'm pretty handy with photoshop but stitching together images produced by scanning my paintings on a flatbed scanner in sections didn't seem too appealing. Add to that the fact that the quality may not be quite up to scratch the camera route was my chosen path.

So with Christmas coming fast you can probably guess whats on my list for Father Christmas. My shinny new tripod has arrived and studio lighting so I'm told is in the post! All in all cost under £200 we will wait to see if its money well spent, or just more items to store in the loft!

So on to the camera, and the on going discussions in my head. I've currently got a little digital camera which I thought took great photos and for holiday snaps you'd be very impressed. But for paintings I've had a few problems in the past, including colour difference, warping of corners and shadows to name just a few. Now I'm yet to discover if these areas will be improved with the tripod and studio lighting, but i'm going to give it a good go before spending more money on an expensive camera that will probably take me months if not years to fathom out how to just switch it on!
